Danie Gagnon was born into a family who
has been very much involved in the arts. From a tender age, colour
crayons, pastels, charcoal and ink have been part of her life. Since
birth, she has been surrounded by family pets, which she has devoted
her passion and respect.
It wasn’t until the mid 90’s, that she
discovered her talent for painting. Although she began her career as
a self-taught artist, without delay she pursued classes to expand
her knowledge of new skills in technique and composition. Her main
guidance was by the artist, painter Juan Cristobal. Her use of
pastels and oils allows her to create paintings with an explosion of
colours that reflect softness, calmness and serenity. Her devotion
and her commitment to her art, has earned her the reputation as a
naturalist painter.
By end of year 2000, she dedicated most
of her time to her art, displaying her paintings on a regular basis.
She is the recipient of many awards, including public choice awards
and first prizes. She is recognized by her peers with an honourable
mention. Due to their fond du Patrimoine, Sainte-Julie has become
owner of one of her paintings. In 2008, she was the recipient of the
first provincial prize from Ducks unlimited Canada for the donation
of her art.
She takes the time to study nature up
close, which is her inspiration. She captures each anatomical
detail with sketches or photos, before they become immortalized on
canvas in a composition created by the magic of the moment during
her observations and filled with emotion often more human than
animal. It is a tribute and call to respect all animals that
fascinate and intrigue her, which are fossilized through the
pigments on canvas and emerge from the painting to be captured in
our collective memory.
